One month after coming to Hatton, Bear Building has announced the start of their construction project.
Come May 6, heavy machinery will occupy Big Green and begin digging out the field. As of Tuesday, April 7, the Parks Department has signed off on Bear's building permits and plan of operations. However, it is still unknown what will fill up the space.
With the loss of Big Green comes the loss of an important gathering place for Hattonians. Many festivals, concerts, birthdays, weddings, etc. were held on the field, and it holds memories for many people. Due to its personal value, citizens of Hatton have come forward to say they don't want to lose Big Green. Fliers and posters can be seen across the city demanding Bear Building leave the city.
These posters have actually been present since Bear first arrived but haven't garnered any attention until recently. Resistance to the construction company has grown exponentially since the Hatton High seniors' protest as the community begin to consider the ramifications of losing the field.
Speaking with Bear Building employee, he says, "Everything is on track. I don't think we have plans to stop no matter what." Bear seems unconcerned with the negativity it has received lately and has no plans to change its course of action.
