Mistakes were Made

I did something I probably shouldn't have, but it was a prime opportunity. I was at the grocery store, and I saw the man who talked to Ms. Lawson a few months back. I'm not gonna say I stalked him through the aisles. I got what I needed and waited in the parking lot for him to leave.

He's probably in his late forties, and he blends in very well. Honestly, if I hadn't grown up in Hatton, I would have mistaken him for a middle school teacher or something. His hair is graying, but it also looks like he dyes it. He was wearing a light blue golf polo and khaki shorts with boots you'd buy at L.L. Bean. Dad-fit.

Anyway he got into a white car with the Bear Building logo on it, which means I was right when I first saw him. He's new to town, and he definitely has some place he's staying. I waited for him to pull out of the lot before I followed on my bike. We ended up going to the far side of town with the bigger houses and stopping outside Agatha's Bed and Breakfast. Well, he stopped. I kept going so I wasn't too obvious and turned around later.

It was pretty easy to find his room. It's not a big building, and most people in it keep their windows open. Agatha's is notorious for having broken AC. Also it's next to the creek, so it's not like anybody is going to be watching in. Except for me.

Which is where the mistake was made. I may have been slightly caught peeking in through the window. I hightailed it out of there before he could see more than the top of my head, but it's safe to say I messed up. He's definitely going to be more cautious now with whatever he's hiding.

A bust on my part, but at least now we know what he's here for. Is he the boss of the other men?

I'll figure it out.
